Andrew Relph letter : Buffalo, to John Graves, South Scitiate [sic], R. Island, 1839 July 4.

States that he does not wish to sell the old school house lot, but Graves can occupy it for ten years without any rent. Describes construction in Buffalo, the type and number of boats; mentions that his son Andrew lives in Cleveland and owns and runs a canal boat on the Ohio Canal, and that his son Christopher runs between Buffalo and Albany on the boat Whig, on the pilot line. Describes his partnership with Capt. Collins in the lumber and stone business; gives details on prices of corn, sugar, and other staples, and the cost of labor in Buffalo. Tells of social functions he has attended, including a barn party given by two men from his native Switzerland. Also mentions that the Indian treaty soon to be ratified will bring into market a tract of land; that the Indians have moved to the State of Missouri; that the Canadian skirmish is over; and there is free communication between Buffalo and Canada. Invites Graves to come for a visit and offers to introduce him to "some of our old country Dutch market women."
